Today, September 12th, the new iPhone with the presumed name iPhone 5 was officially presented. Is it the measure of all things and the best smartphone on the market? In comparison, we give you the answer as to whether the Apple cell phone can hold its own against its toughest competitors with Android and Windows Phone 8.

It's here - the long wait for the latest smartphone from Apple is finally over! Today, on September 12, 2012 at 7:13 pm German time, Apple presented the iPhone 5 - now it officially bears the name! It will come on the market in black and silver / white and will be offered in the various versions at the usual prices.

The iPhone 5 offers the highest resolution of all 4-inch smartphones

Apple's newest mobile device comes with a 4-inch retina display. It measures 0.5 inches (1.27 centimeters) more in the screen diagonal than its predecessor. The resolution is also impressive, with 1136 x 640 pixels it is quite high. This results in a pixel density of 326 ppi. A tick less than, for example, the iPhone 4S with 329.65 ppi, but you can't find a big difference without a multiple enlargement.

The currently best smartphone in the test field, the Samsung Galaxy S3, has the much larger display with 4.8 inches (12.19 centimeters) and has an even higher resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Nevertheless, the new iPhone offers, whereby the retina display will be a little sharper - but this is not visible to the naked eye! Only the Nokia Lumia 920 can trump this, because with the 4.5 inch IPS LCD and a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels, the WP8 mobile phone has a pixel density of 331.72 ppi.

IOS 6 comes with extensive software as the operating system

The iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6 as standard. The operating system offers, among other things, a new map app that contains over 100 million POI information and handles turn-by-turn navigation in 3D. The Safari browser contains a full-screen mode, which is also possible with Android and Windows Phone 8. With "Passbook" you have a central location for all types of admission and access tickets such as cinema, flights and concerts. The operating system obtains all kinds of data in order to offer you the best possible comfort, similar to Google Now, which comes with Android 4.1 and will soon also be available on the Samsung Galaxy S3. For example, your iPhone 5 automatically displays your online boarding pass as soon as you approach the gate in the airport.

Siri voice recognition is also getting an update and can now answer sports questions. With the Galaxy S3, for example, this is not possible with S-Voice. Here you only need to enter your spoken question on Google. Like Google Now, Siri or iOS 6 gets to know its owner and can, for example, recommend a film in a nearby cinema depending on your taste. The speech recognition under Windows 8 should surpass Siri according to Microsoft. It is difficult to say whether this is still possible after the innovations (provided they work properly) - a practical test will show that.
