Moss infestation on oaks

of ategoo »Tue Mar 13, 2012 5:24 pm

Hello everyone, I have the following problem: My oak trees - number approx. 30 pieces - have a very strong moss infestation,
this now extends to the beginning of the crowns. Approx. 150 m. away from these there are another 80 or so oaks, none of which is infested with moss. The affected trees are around 30-40 years old. What can I do about this, because I think that it will certainly damage the trees. Would be very grateful for tips and I wish you a nice evening.

Good evening

why should that harm the trees? Mosses do not penetrate the wood with their roots, they are only superficial. Nor does it spread like ivy all over the crown and break branches, so what are you afraid of?

The moss only forms on the north side of the tree trunks and where there is little light and where it is very humid.
This is completely harmless to the oak trunk; the moss is not a fungus.

A lot of LIME works against moss.

I couldn't even say for sure if I even have oaks without moss!
