O.J. Simpson attorney joins President Trump's defense team

WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - US star lawyer Alan Dershowitz claims to join the defense team in the impeachment proceedings against US President Donald Trump in the Senate. The retired Harvard professor announced on Twitter on Friday that he was taking part in the process "to defend the integrity of the constitution". He will present constitutional arguments against the impeachment of Trump. Dershowitz was born in the mid-1990s as part of the defense team for football star O.J. Simpson known.

US media reported that the special investigator in the impeachment proceedings against then President Bill Clinton, Kenneth Starr, will also be part of the Trump team. Clinton was acquitted in 1999. According to US media reports, the defense team will be led by White House legal advisor Pat Cipollone and Trump's personal lawyer Jay Sekulov.

The broadcaster CNN reported that the team should also include Robert Ray, Pam Bondi and Jane Raskin. Ray also played a role in the impeachment proceedings against Clinton. Bondi is Florida's former attorney general, and Raskin has represented Trump as a lawyer in the past. There was initially no communication from the White House on the composition of the team.

The team of seven House prosecutors is led by the chairman of the intelligence committee, Democrat Adam Schiff. The impeachment proceedings against Republican Trump in the Senate were formally opened on Thursday. The content-related part of the procedure is to begin on Tuesday next week.
